The article presents information on the procedure for the election of the U.S. President. The Constitution provides that the President and Vice President be chosen by an electoral college. In the original form adopted in 1789, the Constitution made no mention of a popular vote in choosing presidential electors. Article II of the Constitution did not specify how presidential electors were to be chosen. Initially the process was a mixture of popular votes and appointments by legislatures. The Twenty-Second Amendment, adopted in 1951, limits one person to two terms as President.
