- Abstract:
Researchers from Loyola University conducted a study on trochanteric bursitis (TB) as a common complication following total hip arthroplasty (THA). The study analyzed potential risk factors for TB in THA patients, including radiographic measurements of offset and leg length, comorbidities, and patient characteristics. The research found that women had a 1.79 times higher risk of developing TB, emphasizing the importance of counseling women patients on this heightened risk. The study did not find a relationship between femoral, acetabular, or total offset and TB following THA, suggesting that surgeons may consider adding offset for increased prosthetic stability in high-risk cases.
