    • Abstract:
The University of Tasmania's Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies has successfully hatched the first Maugean skate in captivity, a species endemic to Tasmania. The population of Maugean skates has significantly declined in recent years, with only one remaining habitat in Macquarie Harbour. Researchers are hopeful that the captive-breeding program will help increase the numbers of this endangered species and ultimately support the wild population. [Extracted from the article]
