- Abstract:
The article focuses on corporate benevolence in Chicago, Illinois. Like many of its corporate brethren, Boeing Co. made a $5-million contribution to help build the Millennium Park's open-air exhibition spaces as a token of good corporate citizenship, says Anne Roosevelt, Boeing's director of community and education relations. Companies make charitable contributions for a variety of reasons, but pure altruism-known in the giving world as checkbook philanthropy is rarely one of them. Oak Brook-based McDonald's Corp. has long used advertising to target children-obviously a key demographic for its current and future, customer base. INSET: To found or not to found?.
