- Abstract:
Representative simile is one of the most beautiful rhetorical styles, profoundly affecting the listener and addressee's soul. The speech virtues and aesthetics associated with this simile make it one of the most exquisite forms of similes in the field of rhetoric, a quality absent from other types of metaphors. This simile brings the meanings closer to the mind, transforming them into a vivid mental image. The study discusses the representative simile and how it appears in some of the Prophet's hadiths from Sahih Muslim. The study first illuminates the significance of rhetoric and expression in Arabic rhetoric and literature. Then, through linguistic and terminological definitions of the expression, its significance and beauty were elucidated, particularly in the Prophet's Sunnah. Insights were also discussed into the interpretation of linguistic and representative similes, drawing on the perspectives of rhetoric scholars. Within this framework, a general overview of the many forms of similes was provided. Each type was subsequently elucidated with an accompanying example. Following this, the focal point of the research, namely the representative simile, was introduced. Furthermore, this text provides insights into the perspectives of both classical and modern rhetoricians regarding simile by presenting their respective definitions and offers explanatory details about the concept of simile. The study employed the analytical method to examine selected hadiths of the Prophet. After applying the research method to explain some hadiths with representative similes, it was attempted to explain the rhetorical aspect of these hadiths by concentrating on their representative similes. The research concluded by highlighting the key findings, demonstrating the acceptance of the Prophet's hadiths as a rhetorical tool with artistic elements. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
