    • Abstract:
A recent study conducted by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi aimed to assess the effectiveness of prophylactic antibiotics in preventing Surgical Site Infections (SSI) in children with Infantile Hypertrophic Pyloric Stenosis (IHPS). The study, which included five papers published between 1999 and 2024, found no significant incremental benefit of administering prophylactic antibiotics before pyloromyotomy in preventing SSIs in children with IHPS. The researchers suggest that further randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled trials are needed to draw definitive conclusions on this matter. The findings were published in Pediatric Surgery International and emphasize the importance of evidence-based practices in pediatric care. [Extracted from the article]
