    • Abstract:
Researchers have discovered depictions of Stone Age net fishing on engraved stones at the Gönnersdorf site in Germany, dating back approximately 16,000 years. This finding, reported in PLOS ONE, is significant as it is the only known Upper Paleolithic site in Europe, and possibly worldwide, to visually represent net-fishing practices. The use of reflectance transformation imaging allowed researchers to uncover previously unnoticed details on the stones, such as grids of crosshatched lines likely depicting a fishing net surrounding images of fish.
