- Abstract:
Researchers at East China Normal University conducted a study on how expectations of pleasurable sensations affect neuronal responses and subjective experiences to hot sauce. Positive expectations were found to enhance subjective experiences and increase brain activity in regions associated with reward processing, while negative expectations decreased pleasure and increased neural activity in pain-related networks. The study suggests that hedonic expectations play a significant role in shaping subjective reality and could inform interventions targeting expectation-driven neural processes. The research was supported by various funding sources and published in PLoS Biology. [Extracted from the article]
