- Abstract:
Knowledge of the speciation of americium in groundwaters is important for the safe disposal of the high-level radioactive waste. In this work, we investigated the solubility, speciation and sorption of americium in Beishan groundwaters with CHEMSPEC code. Our results showed that the solubility of Am in far-field and near-field Beishan groundwater is 1.57 × 10−7 and 2.3 × 10−8 mol/L, respectively. In addition, complexing inorganic anions can significantly affect the speciation of americium and the order of impact is as follows: HCO3− > F− > SO42− > Si(OH)4(aq). The sorption calculations indicated almost all americium in Beishan groundwaters would be sorbed on quartz. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
