    • Abstract:
This article from Ranger Rick Jr. introduces readers to the tapir, an animal found in the rainforest. The tapir, named Tomás, explains how it uses its stubby trunk to find food, sniff scents, and pick up leaves and plants to eat. Tapirs are also skilled swimmers and can use their trunks as snorkels. They often cool off in mud puddles to beat the heat. As a baby, Tomás had a coat with white lines and spots, resembling a brown watermelon. The article includes several colorful photos of tapirs.
