- Abstract:
A recent report from Grand Valley State University in Michigan explores the barriers and facilitators to parent engagement in postoperative care for pediatric cardiac surgery patients. The study found that registered nurses (RNs) with more experience had higher parent engagement scores, and factors such as workflow, unit environment, nurse attitude, and patient acuity correlated with overall family engagement. The study also revealed that lack of a written policy was a barrier to family engagement for RNs, while safety was a facilitator for parents. The findings highlight the importance of collaboration, communication, and shared decision making in improving parent engagement and ultimately a child's health. [Extracted from the article]
