    • Abstract:
A study conducted at the University of Twente in the Netherlands compared the effectiveness of the Hypotension Prediction Index, a machine learning algorithm, with mean arterial pressure-based prediction methods in predicting intraoperative hypotension during noncardiac surgery. The study found that the Hypotension Prediction Index and mean arterial pressure had almost identical predictive performance for hypotension within 5 minutes, outperforming other methods. The researchers concluded that the machine learning algorithm could be substituted by an alarm based on a mean arterial pressure threshold of 72 or 73 mmHg. However, the study also noted a high rate of false alarms with both the index and mean arterial pressure threshold. [Extracted from the article]
