- Abstract:
The article discusses the renovation of an old movie theater in downtown San Diego into a symphony hall for the San Diego Symphony Orchestra. The theater, known as the Fox Theater, was hidden within a 1980s office and hotel complex and had compromised acoustics and sight lines. The renovation project, which cost $125 million, involved removing obstacles to improve sound quality, creating a choral terrace for singers, and adding a state-of-the-art recording studio and control room. The architects also restored the venue's wood and plaster ornamentation while updating the seating and carpeting. The renovated hall, now known as the Jacobs Music Center, is seen as a way to engage new audiences and unite the community. [Extracted from the article]
