      A study conducted by researchers at the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom examined the role of myocardial calcium uptake in patients with severe aortic stenosis (AS). The study utilized manganese-enhanced MRI (MEMRI) to assess calcium uptake in the myocardium. The results showed that despite adverse left ventricular remodeling and systolic dysfunction, patients with severe AS did not exhibit any alteration in calcium uptake compared to healthy controls. Additionally, aortic valve replacement (AVR) led to reverse left ventricular remodeling, but no significant change in calcium uptake was observed. These findings suggest that altered myocardial calcium handling may not play a significant role in the pathophysiology of AS. [Extracted from the article]
