    • Abstract:
A study conducted at the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Bordeaux compared two surgical procedures, dacryocystectomy (DCT) and dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR), for the treatment of dacryocystitis. The study found that both procedures resulted in similar improvements in tearing complaints, with 70% of patients in the DCR group and 67% in the DCT group experiencing an improvement. DCR procedures were performed under general anesthesia, while DCT procedures were mostly performed under local anesthesia. The study suggests that DCT may be a viable surgical option, particularly for elderly patients without tearing complaints and with underlying dry eye disease. [Extracted from the article]
