      This document is a report from the Government Accountability Office (GAO) that examines the Office of Natural Resources Revenue's (ONRR) royalties and compliance activities in the oil and gas industry from 2012 to 2022. The report highlights that ONRR collected $74 billion in royalties on $600 billion in total sales of oil and gas produced on federal leases during that period. It identifies challenges in ONRR's compliance program, including incomplete data and resource limitations, and makes 14 recommendations for improvement.
