A recent report from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) explores the existing literature on biomarkers for post-traumatic headache (PTH). The research suggests that traumatic brain injury leads to the release of pain neuropeptides, such as calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) and pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide (PACAP), which play a role in the pathophysiology of migraine and other primary headache disorders. However, the study found no consistent relationship between CGRP levels and PTH, and there is currently no conclusive evidence for reliable blood-based biomarkers for PTH.
