This article assesses whether investing in the industries in Africa is better than donating money to a charity that provides aid to the country. An increasing number of institutional and private investors are realizing that they can support growth in local African economies and receive the returns they expect by investing in African funds or businesses. Increased media attention on Africa has stirred the social conscience to play a part in reducing poverty in the continent. However, it is revealed that donating money is not enough. Africans are starting to take their future into their own hands. Although charities do a great job, the help it offers is not sustainable. By investing on a commercial basis, investors can increase employment and growth and create sustainable businesses in Africa.
