Some remarks on the disappearance of Neanderthals. (English)

The disappearance of Neanderthals was determined by multiple factors, which seem to rule out environmental causes. Rather, it was due to a slow process of hybridization/absorption with Homo sapiens but also of domination/competition by the latter, who was characterized by a higher degree of intraspecific aggression, more efficient technology for hunting and surviving and a much greater number of individuals. Therefore, the different demographic rate between the two populations may have had a non-secondary role. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

La scomparsa dell’Uomo di Neanderthal si deve a una molteplicità di fattori che escluderebbero cause ambientali e che si connotano come un lento processo di ibridazione/assorbimento con Homo sapiens ma anche di dominazione/competizione da parte di quest’ultimo, dotato di un grado di aggressività intraspecifico maggiore, di una tecnologia di caccia e di sopravvivenza più efficace e numericamente superiore.
