    • Abstract:
This article discusses a study conducted at two academic medical centers in Chicago, Illinois, to understand the patterns and opportunities for prescribing pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV prevention. The study analyzed electronic medical record data from 2015 to 2021 and found that one institution accounted for the majority of PrEP prescriptions. The demographics of the two institutions differed, with institution A having more young adults, African Americans, and women, while institution B had more White individuals, Hispanic individuals, and men who have sex with men. The study also identified disparities in PrEP prescription rates based on race, gender, and healthcare settings. The findings suggest the need to improve equity in PrEP prescribing and address disparities in certain healthcare settings. [Extracted from the article]
