    • Abstract:
A recent study conducted by the National Research Centre aimed to determine the impact of the deletion of the glutathione S-transferase class Mu 1 (GSTM1) gene on the risk of lung cancer among smokers. The study involved 20 patients with lung cancer and 20 healthy individuals as a control group. The results showed no statistically significant difference in the frequency of the GSTM1 null variant between the two groups, indicating no association between the occurrence of the GSTM1 null variant and the risk of lung cancer, even when stratified for smoking status. This research provides valuable insights into the genetic susceptibility of tobacco-related cancers. [Extracted from the article]
