Representative Sheila Jackson Lee, a Democrat from Texas, passed away at the age of 74. She was known for her advocacy of racial justice and equality, and one of her major accomplishments was establishing Juneteenth as a federal holiday in 2021. Jackson Lee began her political career in 1990 and served on Houston's City Council before being elected to represent Texas' 18th district in the House of Representatives.
