- Abstract:
XPO Logistics has established a Female Driver Academy to attract more women to the trucking industry. The academy offers a 12- to 16-week program to develop and enhance the skills of female drivers using XPO's internal training team. The goal is to create a group of highly skilled and professional female drivers who are familiar with the company's customers and products. The first graduates are expected to start driving full-time for XPO by August. Additionally, DAF has launched a special edition XG+ truck model to celebrate 75 years of truck manufacturing, featuring premium features and improved fuel efficiency. The HGV sector has seen a greater increase in female drivers compared to the passenger-carrying vehicle sector over the past decade, according to data from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency. Initiatives to address the driver shortage and broaden the pool of drivers in the HGV sector have had a positive impact, including expanding testing capacity, improving licensing processes, and providing support and training for new drivers. HGVC, a training firm, has received a record number of applications from women, ethnic minorities, and younger individuals, with over 7% of their trainees being women. However, there is still progress to be made in attracting more diverse candidates to the industry. [Extracted from the article]
