    • Abstract:
Australia has signed a $1.4 billion deal with ASC Pty Ltd to upgrade its Collins class submarines while waiting for the delivery of nuclear-powered vessels as part of the Aukus agreement. The four-year deal with the state-owned defense contractor is part of the government's life-of-type extension program for the submarines. The upgrade will support around 1,100 workers in South Australia and Western Australia and will help grow the workforce required for Australia's future nuclear-powered submarines. The country is set to receive its first US-made Virginia class nuclear-powered submarines after 2032. [Extracted from the article]
