- Abstract:
Plastic waste is one of the issues currently faced by society in Indonesia. According to research from the Ministry ofEnvironment and Forestry (KLHK), in 2021 the amount of waste reaches up to 68.5 million tons, and almost 18% of it was the plasticwaste. One challenging type of non-degradable waste is PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) plastic bottles. This study aims to reducePETplasticbottlewaste by designinga Filament Maker to process theplastic bottles into filamentmaterial for 3D Printers. The method in this study utilizes the product design steps, considering various aspects, and conducting product testing to achieve appropriateoperational standards. The selected product is the third type of design with variations in cutting size and bottle size. The ideal motorrotation speed is 30.2 rpm, and the spool rotation speed is 3.3 rpm, with a cutting thickness of 1 cm. The resulting filament with the diameter of 1.5 mm thickness. The product testing was carried out using two types of plastic bottles with thicknesses and sizes of 0.2 mm and 0.1 mm thick, as well as 550 ml - 600 ml and 1500 ml bottle sizes, respectively. The results indicate that bottle thickness and size affect the filament length produced, with the highest length in the 1500 ml bottle size at 745 cm, and the fastest filament extrusion process speed in bottles with a thickness of 0.1 mm, taking up to 2.064 minutes.
