    • Abstract:
Alice E. Marwick's book, "The Private Is Political: Networked Privacy and Social Media," explores the pressing issue of privacy in the digital age. Marwick argues that privacy protection should shift from the individual sphere to the networked one. She makes three claims in her book, based on research on marginalized groups, that privacy is networked, unequally distributed, and interconnected. Marwick also highlights the feminist history of privacy and reframes privacy-protecting strategies as a form of labor. She discusses the impact of surveillance and privacy violations on marginalized groups, particularly the poor and sexual minorities. Marwick concludes that protecting privacy requires a collective sense of responsibility. [Extracted from the article]
