El matadero, a prospectively historical novel very original. (English)
    • Abstract:
Echeverría is the most important poet of the Argentine generation of 1837, however, he is remembered more for El matadero, a narrative text that denounces the barbarity of the government of Juan Manuel de Rosas and that is published posthumously. From the perspective of historical poetics, we analyze the generic modality of El matadero, in order to appreciate both the originality that the author seeks and the setbacks he suffers not only for his marked preference for poetry, but also for the inadequacy of traditional forms to the subjective content that summons him. We intend to demonstrate that the model of his writing project is the prospectively historical novel, to which Echeverría adjusts creating a sublime effect, similar to that of poetry: a stroke of understanding and emotion to move the reader, through the final scene of humiliation and death of a young unitarian. However, the textual result does not seem to satisfy the writer and perhaps for that reason it remains unpublished and hidden. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

[ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
