      The article provides a historical into the powers of puppetry as demonstrated by the combination of the puppet theaters of Kazakhstan and Soviet ideals with Kazakh traditions to educate the masses on socialist principles. Topics discussed include adoption of the Russian carnival puppet Petrushka by Soviet puppet theaters, the Alma-Ata government puppet theater, puppetry as an inspiration to avant-garde theater, and institutionalization of puppetry in the 20th-century.
