    • Abstract:
A new US law on Tibet and a visit by American lawmakers to the region are expected to pressure China to engage with the government in exile, according to a top official. The bipartisan group of lawmakers, including House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, will meet with officials from the Central Tibetan Administration and the Dalai Lama. The US legislation supports Tibet and calls for negotiations between China and the Dalai Lama or Tibetan officials in exile. China annexed Tibet in the 1950s and continues to exert control over the region. [Extracted from the article]
