Este texto revisa las posibilidades de desarrollo de la lectura desde la acción del Estado y la sociedad civil, haciendo un breve recorrido de lo acontecido en los últimos treinta años, para luego invitar a la reflexión sobre las lecturas en formatos digitales y la generación de lectores digitales y sobre la incidencia de la pandemia por covid-19 (marzo de 2020 en adelante) en el uso de las bibliotecas en general y particularmente en el de las bibliotecas abiertas a la comunidad en Chile. This text reviews the possibilities of reading development from the action of the State and civil society, making a brief review of what has happened in the last thirty years, and then invites reflection on reading in digital formats and the generation of digital readers and on the impact of the pandemic of COVID 19 (March 2020 onwards) in the use of libraries in general and particularly in the use of libraries open to the community in Chile.
