- Abstract:
Adam Bobbette's book, "The Pulse of the Earth: Political Geology in Java," explores the concept of political geology and its application to the Indigenous geology of Java. The author aims to challenge conventional narratives of modern geological science, which he argues were tools of European empire seeking resources. The book examines the interplay between modern geological sciences and the spiritual geography of Java, highlighting how they are both shaped by and shaping specific political powers. The Indigenous geology of Java, in particular, helps maintain the power of the Java Sultanate and the leaders of Indonesia's modern nation-state. [Extracted from the article]
