    • Abstract:
This study explored foster caregiver perspectives on barriers and facilitators to providing trauma-informed care to children in child welfare. Participants (n = 26) completed an electronic survey and a semi-structured phone interview. Participants reported multi-level barriers to trauma-informed caregiving including insufficient trauma training and inconsistent communication from the welfare agency. They recommended: (1) structured and mandatory trauma training for both kin and unrelated caregivers; (2) improved communication from welfare agency staff so that caregivers have the knowledge to apply trauma concepts into practice; and (3) peer support for caregivers.
