- Alternate Title: What remains of the future after the end of history? The presentist hypothesis and the (un)availability of history. (English)
- Abstract: The article aims to analyze the “presentist” hypothesis of the French historian François Hartog in the light of the problem of the availability of history. To this end, we put the hypothesis in dialogue with a Brazilian bibliography, but not only, which sought, among other things, to point out the theoretical and political insufficiencies of this hypothesis, as well as to highlight the dimensions and risks that are imposed on the task of naming the contemporary. We understand that the perspectives that argue about a disorientation of time from the crisis of the modern concept of history can be re-dimensioned from a thickening in the description of temporalization processes in contemporary times. Finally, we argue that the question about the availability of history, when the future is no longer the same, takes on new contours with a future that is no longer necessarily associated with redemptive promises, but rather attentive to the objective conditions for life on the planet and for the care of everything that inhabits time.
