    • Abstract:
Atlantic Shores and Dominion Energy are facing lawsuits from non-profit organizations over their offshore wind projects. In New Jersey, three non-profit organizations have filed lawsuits against Atlantic Shores, claiming that the project violates federal coastal protection laws. Dominion Energy is also facing a suit from public interest groups and individuals who are concerned about the impact on the North Atlantic right whale. These lawsuits are not the first to be filed against wind projects, as the "nimbyism" movement previously targeted the Cape Wind project, leading to its cancellation. Atlantic Shores, a joint venture between Shell New Energies and EDF Renewables North America, is currently developing its 1.5GW Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind Project. Dominion Energy has received final approval for its 2.6GW Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind project. Despite the lawsuits, both companies are moving forward with their projects.
