      Türkiye's local elections in March 2024 resulted in a defeat for President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Justice and Development Party (AKP). The main opposition party, the center-left Republican People's Party (CHP), claimed victory in Istanbul and Ankara, the country's largest cities. The AKP suffered losses in municipalities and provinces that had been loyal to them, while the pro-Kurdish Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM) won municipalities in the Kurdish-majority southeast.
