- Abstract: A recent article in the journal Clinical Oral Investigations discusses the connection between post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and bruxism, a condition characterized by teeth clenching or grinding during the day. The study found that individuals with PTSD often experience awake bruxism, and collaboration between dentists and psychiatrists is crucial for accurate diagnosis and treatment. PTSD, which was first diagnosed in war veterans, affects about 4% of people exposed to traumatic events. The study emphasizes the need for understanding the psychological and physical manifestations of PTSD, as well as the importance of multidisciplinary treatment involving dentists, psychiatrists, and psychologists.
