The article presents information about several new varieties of jig saws, introduced by different companies. The authors like the convenience of the trigger-controlled variable speed provided on the Craftsman and Porter-Cable Corp. saws. Jigsaws with a scrolling feature have reciprocating mechanisms that can be unlocked so the blade pivots around a vertical axis. Such scroll saws allow the hand guiding the tool to maintain a comfortable position, while the other hand turns the blade to follow a tight, convoluted cutline. Only the Skil and Black & Decker Corp. tools are scroll saws.
