    • Abstract:
Women's History Month is a national celebration in the United States that originated in 1981. It was initially designated as "Women's History Week" and later expanded to a month-long observance in 1987. Since then, presidents have issued annual proclamations designating March as Women's History Month. Various institutions, including the Library of Congress and the Smithsonian Institution, participate in commemorating and studying the contributions of women in American history. The Smithsonian American Women's History Museum has announced new initiatives for Women's History Month, including a digital exhibition and a Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon to increase the representation of women on Wikipedia.
