- Abstract:
This article provides a summary of an updated position statement on chronic cough in Australia. The author highlights some rare and important causes of chronic cough in adults that may be overlooked by general health practitioners. These causes include neurological involvement of Arnold's nerve, giant cell arteritis, chronic neuropathic cough following viral infection, cerebellar ataxia, neuropathy, and vestibular areflexia syndrome, and hereditary sensory neuropathy. The author suggests that assessment of chronic cough should include otoscopy, neurological examination, and an erythrocyte sedimentation rate test. [Extracted from the article]
