Oil Bourgeoisie and State Redistributions: The Case of Argentina During the Macri Administration (2015-2019).

    • Abstract:
The article analyzes the policies implemented by the Macri government in Argentina between 2015 and 2019 to strengthen the profitability of the oil bourgeoisie. It is concluded that Macri's hydrocarbon policy was a hybrid between neoliberalism and (neo) developmentalism, generating poor results in terms of self-sufficiency and energy sovereignty. During his government, policies of subsidies and incentives were implemented for large oil companies, especially in unconventional gas extraction, which benefited the companies but harmed consumers and the public treasury. In addition, state redistributions were carried out that favored the oil bourgeoisie, such as favorable tax reforms, subsidies and tax exemptions, privatizations, and acquisition of state assets at low prices.
