    • Abstract:
A study conducted by researchers at New York University Abu Dhabi explores the role of personal values in shaping perceptions of the legitimacy of public health officials during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study found that major environmental events, such as a pandemic, can prompt individuals to critically evaluate their views of established authorities. The researchers used data from a survey of 1,356 U.S. adults and found that individuals actively assessed the legitimacy of public health officials during the pandemic. The study also highlights how value alignment or misalignment affects evaluations of the propriety of public health officials and their future compliance intentions. [Extracted from the article]
