      According to a preprint abstract from biorxiv.org, a study found that Notch dimerization, a process involving the binding of certain proteins to regulate transcription, contributes to the maintenance of intestinal homeostasis. Mice with Notch dimerization-deficient alleles were more sensitive to environmental insults but otherwise developed and aged normally. The study also discovered impaired stem cell maintenance and an elevated innate immune response in these mice. Additionally, the researchers found that inhibiting HDAC2 activity could prevent intestinal consequences in mice and spheroids, suggesting a synergy between HDAC activity and a pro-differentiation program in intestinal stem cells.
