      Sam Jones, a PhD student at Lancaster University, is profiled in this article. He is working on a collaborative project with IQE on telecoms-wavelength vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) using GaSb quantum rings (QRs) as the source of emission. Sam has made significant contributions to the field, including resolving the poor electrical performance of the VCSELs using nextnano modelling software and developing a novel Ni-based ohmic contact to p-doped GaAs. He is also actively involved in engaging others in semiconductor research and engineering through volunteering, teaching, and supervising internship projects. [Extracted from the article]
