    • Abstract:
A recent study suggests that maintaining a healthy lifestyle can help preserve cognitive function and guard against dementia, even in the presence of brain pathologies. The study examined data from 586 deceased individuals and found that engaging in certain brain-friendly activities and behaviors, such as not smoking, getting regular physical activity, following a healthy diet, and staying mentally active, was associated with better cognitive function. These lifestyle factors were beneficial regardless of the presence of Alzheimer's disease or dementia-related pathology in the brain. Other factors that can affect cognition, such as hypertension, obesity, smoking, and hearing and vision impairments, should also be addressed to reduce the risk of dementia.
