    • Abstract:
A recent report from Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine in China discusses the potential use of leech extract in the treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). The study aimed to identify the components of leech extract that have anti-pulmonary fibrosis effects and explore their therapeutic mechanism. The researchers found that the leech extract with a molecular weight greater than 10 KDa showed significant inhibitory effects on cell proliferation and migration, reduced the deposition of fibronectin and collagen, and delayed the progression of pulmonary fibrosis. The study suggests that the >10 KDa group of leech extract may alleviate IPF through the TGF-beta 1/Smad3 signaling pathway. [Extracted from the article]
