- Abstract:
The rates of syphilis are increasing in the United States and other countries, leading to a need for improved diagnosis and treatment. Inexperienced healthcare professionals are struggling to diagnose the infection, as many have not encountered cases during their training. Testing is crucial, even in the absence of symptoms, as syphilis can mimic other conditions and have long periods of latency. The lack of experience also affects treatment, particularly for complex cases. Additionally, there is a shortage of the main treatment for syphilis, penicillin G benzathine, which has led to the temporary use of an alternative drug. Efforts are being made to find alternative treatments, especially for pregnant individuals. [Extracted from the article]
