The first book, "The Crooked Timber of Democracy in Israel: Promise Unfulfilled" by Dahlia Scheindlin, examines the struggle to establish democracy in Israel, highlighting the ideological and political conflicts that have weakened it. The second book, "How Sanctions Work: Iran and the Impact of Economic Warfare" by Narges Bajoghli, Vali Nasr, Djavad Salehi-Isfahani, and Ali Vaez, critiques the effectiveness and consequences of economic sanctions, particularly in the case of Iran. The third book, "My Friends: A Novel" by Hisham Matar, tells the story of three Libyans in exile in London and their experiences during the 2011 uprising against Muammar al-Qaddafi. The fourth book, "We Are Your Soldiers: How Gamal Abdel Nasser Remade the Arab World" by Alex Rowell, explores the influence of Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser on the political landscape of the Middle East.
