- Abstract:
A recent study conducted at Tri-Service General Hospital in Taipei, Taiwan, explored the immunomodulatory effects of the antidepressant bupropion on patients with major depressive disorder (MDD). The study involved 18 MDD patients who were treated with bupropion for four weeks, as well as 23 healthy volunteers. The results showed that bupropion treatment significantly increased the levels of certain cytokines, including IL-1b, IL-4, IL-5, IL-7, and IL-8, compared to the control group. The study suggests that the promotion of anti-inflammatory cytokines may be a crucial step in the treatment of MDD patients with bupropion. [Extracted from the article]
