    • Abstract:
Hemodialysis is given to patients with acute kidney disease and requiring dialysis therapy, where depression is a psychological reaction that is often experienced and is closely related to the patient's quality of life. This study will observe the relationship between quality of life and depression in patients with Hemodialysis treatment. A qualitative research design with a descriptive correlation approach was carried out in April 2023 in the Hemodialysis unit at a private hospital in Bandung involving 50 respondents. To measure depression using the Beck Depression Inventory II (BDI II) scale questionnaire and WHOQOL-BREF are used to measure quality of life. The results showed that 36 (72%) respondents had normal conditions, 9 (18%) respondents experienced mild mood disorders, 2 (4%) respondents experienced clinical depression, two (4%) respondents experienced moderate depression, and 1 (2%) the respondent experienced severe depression. The quality of life of most respondents is included in very good quality of life (76%), 18% of respondents have good quality of life, and 6% of respondents have fair quality of life. Statistical data shows a significant correlation (0.041 < 0.05) between depression and quality of life index. The conclusion that can be drawn from this research is that there is a weak relationship between the level of depression and the quality of life of patients undergoing hemodialysis therapy with a negative correlation direction, which means that if the depression value is greater, the quality of life value will be smaller. Suggestions that can be given are for nurses to provide care biopsychosocial and spiritual nursing related to the risk of depression and improving the patient's quality of life.
