- Abstract:
Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that can cause painful lumps, abscesses, and scars. People of color, particularly Black women, have a higher risk of developing HS and may experience more noticeable scarring due to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Early treatment by a dermatologist is crucial to prevent and treat HS scars, but there may be barriers to care, such as misdiagnosis and lack of health insurance. Antibiotics, corticosteroids, and laser hair removal are some treatment options that can help reduce inflammation and prevent scarring. It is important to keep HS lesions clean and covered, and to give oneself time to heal after surgery to minimize scarring. [Extracted from the article]
